Thank you! I love you! I recently discovered that I'm not just "sort of a slob", as I have described and thought of myself, I'm actually a pig. The only good news is that I'm a sanitary pig (no dirty dishes). Now maybe I can get back to mere slob status. The mess is just so awful, and I recently moved and made it worse. I was wishing I'd set fire to the old house, and bought new junk, instead of moving boxes I haven't even opened since 3 moves (5 years) ago. I'll start working now, and I hope to have the house sorted by the next move, in about 4 months. Wish me luck!

Hi Julie, Remember me from the real estate dinner? I loved your office organization sections. I have a suggestion however. Business cards in my opinion should all be put into an electronic organizer, palm pilot or computer and the card should be tossed. A paperless office should be most people's goal in this time of such great technology.

Noted comment re: husband having tool organizer with EZ-tote on it: am desperately trying to locate plastic tool totes with four plastic drawers on each side at botton. Is this like your husband's? If so, where did he get it and can such an organizer still be obtained. I have had four and am using my last one now with the helpof strong black tape and wire ties to keep it together. Help, please.

I just found this site and have enjoyed going through it. The office section is still printing out for me. I'm over 65 years old and I was amazed to see some of my mother's beliefs and sayings in your writings. "A place for everything and everything in it's place" hit me right between the eyes. Also, she taught us to hang our clothes up as we took them off (they last longer, she said) and I always make my bed up as soon as I get up. I can't seem to get dressed with it unmade. My husband and I, after 20 or 30 years of marriage, finally came to the solution of the "last one up makes the bed". After living with me for so long, he didn't like to see it unmade either. Thanks for a delightful read. I'll be back.

I'm fairly well organized and know a few tricks to keep myself that way .. thanks for the grocery tip .. although we do keep a 'fridge list', my daughter consistently forgets things she needs so I'm going to start the 'forget it and buy it yourself or wait' technique .. should save wear and tear on my stress levels once she realizes I really mean it.

I found this while looking up "hoarding - a temporary fence around a construction site" in the dictionary. I did not know that clutter was an aspect of A.D.H.D. Thank-you for the insight! (I rarely use exclamation marks) This will help in dealing with my 15 year old son's room. It also expains some of the problems I have experienced over the last 40 years. Hello. I found your site by a link on the chaddcanada.org website, where I was looking for more information for our 14 yr old attention deficit son. I have passed on your site address to my mother-in-law in NewWestminster, BC, as she had commented on how she was working toward organizing her home office, when we were visiting this summer. (She is a semiretired gaming regulator.) She is quite organized everywhere else it seems, so I was pleasantly surprised to know that she too needs help organizing SOMETHING. My biggest problem is with paper(old letters, article clippings, catalogues, notes, kids school, etc). I have stashes all over, and after 42 yrs (actually, only 22, since my parents stopped moving with the Canadian Armed Forces! We couldn't accumulate too much before that, 'cause our # of boxes on each move were limited.) I am still striving to reduce it after 15 yrs of marriage, while it seems to breed behind my back! I also want to enjoy my life, family, and hobbies, and not be always tidying. I don't expect my house to be spotless, just neat and well lived in. "An immaculate house is a sign of a boring housewife" I once read! It was fun to find your site, and spend some time away from the mess reading other people's comments, and perhaps pick up a tip or two. I had seen a show on PBS Detroit with an organizer whose comment about what our motivation is to "get organized" really struck home. She asked, who are we doing this for? My mother, who comments on the stacks around my bedroom floor (my attempts to tame A FEW boxes I had stashed in the bottom of my closet when hosting a clothing party, and then rediscovered while looking for some seasonal sandals!) when she comes over and I haven't closed the door? My husband, who resents me organizing his office, workout, and hobby spaces instead of tackling my own?(His is easier!)(I'd like to order him the garage organizing book!) My kids, who AREN'T learning by my example? Another tip that I am taking to heart, 'cause it has always been a pet peeve of mine when the suggestion is made to "put it over there, it's the right size space for that... (choose your style of organizer)", is to organize it where you use it! Yes, I DO work at papers, or sewing, etc. on my dining room table, or the kitchen counter, 'cause that's where I most enjoy spending my time! The location in the house relative to the OTHER things I'm doing TOO, where my son is supposed to be doing his schoolwork and I can keep one eye on him, and the level of sunlight all keep me here.My husband has graciously acknowledged this fact (despite room in the family room, or a long work counter near the laundry room, or a large master bedroom) and allowed me to have, at different times, a small 2drawer filing cabinet for my Avon and Discovery Toys business stuff, and now a 6drawer rolling cart for my sewing/quilting supplies, beside the china cabinet! Do you have a recipe for people who travel for a living? Most of the time I live out of a suitcase. I travel where ever my job may take me. When I get home my clothes end up all over my bedroom. To be specific on top of my desk hope chest, dresser, piled on top of my hamper (not in it). I repack my suitcase and I'm gone again. I read an article in First for Woman, dated 24 July and it could not have come at a more opportune time. My desk which I've always in the past was able to find something, no matter how cluttered, is now, well out of my control. In past 3 months, I've felt so overwhelmed with every thing, due to the fact that the director, and the junior support staff have left, nothing done before the director left. You see when he found out he had another job, he just put everying in a pile inside the desk drawer and an empty bottom file cabinet. What a mess. the article made me stop and think to "take time" to go to the website It's brought me back to reality, I used to be very organized, and with your recipes, I've decided to "jump right in" and get control. In all the mail/paper stuff, you mention "handling daily schedules"... where is this part of the discussion on your website? Although ALL emails are read -- not every email could ever be answered. Thanks to you &;your appreciation of this website &;incredible word of mouth -- we receive approx. 500 e/m's a week! WOW! I realize that some major updates have been long overdue to the website &;I wish to extend my humble apologies. I thank you for your patience. In the last few months I have attempted to address only what is absolutely necessary due to many uncontrollable circumstances. You each need to know that even a Professional Organizer can be challenged at times :) You see, we "are" human too ! In the past few months I have had to relocate my home &;3 businesses ...not once ...yet twice . You can bet there are "moving tips in the making as I write --- hmmm funny I have had many requests for this topic lately too! Anyway, as I state to each of my clients, we need to make sure our priorities are kept in alignment with our value systems. My priorities were challenged in my basic living needs &;needed total attention as we dealt with the cards we received. We were given notice our lease would not be renewed -- after 6 yrs of occupancy (new landlord in the last yr.) This was a blessing in disguise in retrospect. We had horrendous challenges finding a space that would accomodate our needs at the wrong time of the year. This challenge led us to looking into purchasing our own space &;lo &;behold "miracles do happen" !! :) The next challenge meant finding an interim space as we went thru the escrow procedures -- hence the reason we moved 2x in 3 mo. With all this behind us now we are slowly settling into our new space -- Of course there is another 25% of unpacking to deal with -- yet in the interim our clients have been a sheer joy &;blessing. As we all get ready to move into the summer I am ready to go back to a sane schedule that I KNOW works for me in handling 3 businesses, my Professional Speaking &;getting my darn books to press! The summer holds much excitement &;MANY updates &;new items for this website. Bless you!! I stumbled onto your site a couple of weeks ago doing a search for "organizers" (I had just read Deniece Schofield's excellent book "Confessions of an Organized Homemaker"). What an excellent follow-up to find your site!! Her book changed my life (big statement, I know) and my view on housework, and greatly improved the way my entire house runs (I have a hubby and three kids and we're all natural-born slobs!) I had basically given up on having a "clean" house until reading Schofield's book. With that newfound inspiration and now, having found your site, I am more proud of my house than I've ever been. Great web page, I'll be back often. There's too much great info to get all at once. One suggestion, maybe you can incorporate more "Feng Shui" type office designs. I have been dabbling in different types of Feng Shui "cures" in both my home and office and have found them to provide a much more harmonized atmoshpere and have found myself to be more productive. After all, one of the first things that you should do if you are trying to balance your life with Feng Shue is get rid of the clutter. Thanks, Kelly P.S. A friend recommended your site and I think it will help me get organized. I'd like to pass on info about an item I bought at a recent home show. It's called Hinge-It. It attaches the the hinge pins of doors and gives you more hanging space. There were several models. The one for the boy's bathroom attaches to both hinges and has several horizontal levels so everyone has a place to hang their towels. Mine also has a higher hook to hang up my bathrobe without drilling holes. I think they're great! I'll be back, because I need all the help I can get.

Found your site about 2 months ago. Passed it on to 2 friends and we have formed a coalition to get ourselves organized based on all the info we have gotten from your site. We hot tub once a week to discuss what we have done and pass on any other tips we have learned. We go on group shopping trips to locate appropriate organizing storage for whatever we are working on at the time, collect catalogs offering organizing products, and pull book resources on organizing to share. I have also designed a motivational organizing design which I have copyrighted. We have transfered the design to T-shirts for our group to wear for our "hot tub" meetings. We think your site is fantastic and I have also passed the site onto an acquaintance who teaches home ec.
