Aloha Julie! (popular name here ehhh?)
First of all Julie, take a deep breath :) and instead of approaching this huge project as a whole -- look at in "small chewable chunks" .
#1 Find a space in the home where you can leave this project "in motion"
#2 Decide if you want to organize your pictures solely by year in a sequential manner or by events (ie: vacations, b-days, school & or sport activities etc...)
#3 After you have the appropriate piles -- then decide how you want to store them....photo books, plastic sleeves, decorative photo box etc...
