Julie, we use the retreive/redeem method in the family room, you're right, I need to use it in the desk area too. We've discussed it as a family, and for the most part it's fine, unless it's the evening I'm at work, then I usually have the fallout the next morning.....Any suggestions for keeping the family meeting on track, positive and not a gripe session. About 20% of them get sidetracked, and take over an hour with all the kids and their schedules....should I split up the kids ie younger vs older? Seems the younger ones get bored with all the older's schedule needs and then we end up losing everyone. It's the calendaring that takes the most time. I want it to be positive....(treats help :)), and I want them to carry it on into their own lives as well.
By the way, I was thrilled this year when the grade schools provided a weekly organizational calendar that coordinates with the one the Jr. High and High school already use, only in a simpler format. It's perfect for homework, and leaves room for home responsibilities too.
I'm not sure where they ordered them from, but I've seen similar ones in the Franklin/Covey Institute planners (website). If anyone is interested these are so helpful!!!!!! THanks again, this site is my retreat for the day! TAke care, Chris
: Hmmmm, sounds like you need to have a "family meeting" & discuss your dilemma :) *see description at:

: In your case I would bring up the fact that you are attempting to keep your area "neat & organized" & you really need their help & co-operation. Encourage all family members to pick up after themselves & not to dump in your private area. If you are having trouble with cooperation, or the "habits" that are in place, let them know that you will claim the item you find for yourself!

: During the course of each month hold a family auction where everyone must purchase their items back from you. The form of purchase can be completing a particular chore of your choice. Never return an item prematurely, or the lesson will be repeated. One game without your child’s valuable baseball mitt will not be a lesson easily forgotten.
: This process really works & remember no one is immune (not even hubby) :)

: As far as being able to avoid family members "borrowing" your items & not returning them -- are the kids setup with their own supplies in their rooms??? This is an absolute MUST (see section on Kids rooms: http://www.123sortit.com/RO/kidsroom.html ) I'm sure you will see the necessity :)

: Hope some of this helps -- Keep me posted I would love to hear your reults .

: Much Aloha,
