Before we moved to our home, and were renting, I had very limited space. I had boxes of fabric, etc, accumulated since I worked in a store with a great discount on those types of things.
Living in a rental was a great learning tool for me. I finally limited myself to 5-6 projects, and called someone I KNEW could use the fabric for quilts because I knew she'd get them done. I contacted service organizations, schools, day-cares for the craft stuff, and one by one made trips to each place. It was hard giving it up, but much easier knowing I had given it away to someone who would finish the projects (for free for me!) and who would make sure someone else would benefit. Fabric is a GREAT place for your local civic theatre for costuming. Crafts are a great item for pre-schools, church nurseries, or groups who do fund raising.
Sit down and think about the amount of time it would take you to finish all of your projects, and it's pretty overwhelming. Sure, there are times when I wish I had kept something, but it was also usually easily replacable. Let someone else store it, and when you really need it, go buy it.
Last of all keep everything in containers. Staples stores have wonderful stacking containers that come as a unit. LABEL everything!!!
All of your organizing will be cut down to a tenth though if you GET RID of lots first!!! Goodluck. Chris
: I just came across this list while desparately searching for some way to organize my craft room. I am fortunate to have an entire room but that's where it ends.
: I have fabric, yarn, books and tons of other stuff that I have stacked in boxes. There is one small closet in the entire tiny house so I am left with 2 shelf units. One is 5 foot with 4 shelves and the other is a deep 4 foot high 3 shelf monster. I have a desk as well. I can't put up any shelves since it's a rental.
: I guess my biggest question is, how to sort it all, catagorize it and then store it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
