Aloha Sherry....
Ok -- first of all you must stop & take a HUGE, DEEP, breath! I understand how you can feel the overwhelm & the urge to go into panic mode -- yet it won't help you out here ....you with me? :) Atta Girl!!
Where to start? I would suggest you start in your own personal space -- bedroom? office? You need to have a "sacred space" that you can go to when the clutter everywhere else appears to big to conquer. I might add that by creating order in your own areas ...the kids may get the idea & attempt to do something to help you out. Whatever you do ...do NOT start in their areas if mom's room need work too. Actions speak louder than words - right? :)
Sherry, take *one* area at a time in your space. Can you attack a closet? some drawers? your bathroom? Remember, starting doesn't have to be huge ...you just need to *start* :)
To give you an idea -- a long distance friend recently shared w/me how overwhelmed they were w/a packing job they had to do to meet a move date. They were so paralyzed that their mate finally said: start anywhere -- so my friend proceeded to roll pennies!! Yup! You heard me correctly :) Yet, the point is ...that motion got them *started* to proceed w/the rest of the job. Once they moved into the new home I called again to see how they were doing...the phone barely rang when my friend answered....& chuckled ..."I'm paralyzed w/the thought of unpacking ...so I decided to do *something* ... I was dusting the phone."
You see the task can be miniscule & even silly in light of the "big picture" ....yet getting the motion started is key.
Sherry if you are willing to share some of the obsatcles you see in your own space -- I am sure you will get a wealth of support here -- you are not alone by any means!!
Please keep us posted.....
Much Aloha,
