I'd just sort by size. Lots of clothes are unisex & seasons spread out. You might need summer stuff during an Oct. heat wave.
My kids solve the problem: They give ME the clothes to pass on!! Whenever I see either the northern or southern families, I always have boxes for them to sort through. Whatever isn't wanted, I donate. Our town also recycles fabric, so damaged clothes go there.
We live in a retirement village. Neighbors comment on our foresight in having a basement. "Foresight"!? I knew this would happen. Ellen C
