Aloha Louise....

<<< I'm a nurse at a hospital. We have 2 departments which we get supplies from - central services and purchasing. It never fails when the unit or a doctor needs an item for a bedside procedure, we never know which dept. to call.

Louise, Can you please explain the *specific differences* in these 2 areas?? I could guess, yet I may be off base. I would logically *think* that the majority of supplies are kept in central services. In this manner what comes thru Purchasing is distributed to central services using an inventory type system. As inventory is closely monitored ...BEFORE items are depleted ...then orders would be sent to Purchasing for fulfillment.

If they are items that are not used regularly...then obviously the inventory would be kept at a lower amount. If it is a high demand item ...then inventory must be kept accordingly. It sounds like the inventory is not being well monitored for people to end up having to go to 2 different places. And YES I agree this is a huge waste of time, money & resources!

<<< Also, the personnel in those departments, have to physically walk the item to the unit and in a lot of cases, it's the wrong item. >>>

Can you please elaborate on your statement above -- I feel like there is a piece missing here, in order for me to give you a logical answer. I am confused as to HOW it is the wrong item for sure!

<<To date this website has not ventured into this type of *tips* section so I cannot point you anywhere -- sorry.

<< I have several ideas, but can't find anything in writing to prove my point. >>

Please feel free to keep this thread going ...post your ideas & lets analyze the pros/cons. I'd love to give you an unbiased opinion here! My apologies for the delay in this response -- the next will be better -- we've been swamped with clients ...so no complaints :)

Much Aloha,
