something to hide the mess behind the washer and dryer

I need to build a very simple shelf above my w/d - and I need to put a side on it to hide the dryer vent. I can't move the w/d close enough to the wall because of the vent - and you can see the back where the vent is as you walk in the laundry room. Ugly! I was thinking of a closed-in shelf but don't know how to go about it. Any suggestions?
