Aloha Sami.... I know exactly what you are about to be faced with! I had to put my things in storage during an interim move prior to closing on our home & I DESPERATELY needed to get my hands on items ....seeing as 80% of what I owned was going in storage for 4 months. Here are a few *tricks* • When packing...make sure you put *like* contents in the same boxes. • Use similar size boxes for packing. (ie: the size of archive boxes is good because they cannot be over-packed, which means they can be easily lifted by you!) • Pack boxes that you know are the *nice to haves* in the same area...in the back of the storage area! These are the things that you will not need....you just want them for your space in the future. • Label ALL boxes on 5 sides ...this way no matter HOW the boxes are piled you can readily *see* any of them as necessary. • Stack the boxes according to the areas of your *current* living space prior to the move ie: all kitchen in one area, living room, bedroom etc. • List some *trigger* items on the outsides of the boxes...this way ...believe it or not...if you have to puruse the boxes you will know which boxes you are loooking for. • Take the time to neatly organize your storage space...YOU must do it...not friends...regardless of their good intentions, it is not their stuff & often things get placed haphazardly. • As big of a job that you are faced with...pack yourself! This way you will know precisely WHERE things are going ...AND that they are properly protected. • Avoid using adjectives in your descriptions of the boxes...what is "old stuff" anyway??? • Keep the items that you feel you need access to (regardless ofcategory) in the very front of your storage area. You will get a *feel* for these items as you are doing the packing (another reason why you need to do it yourself) Lastly, take the time to weed thru your possessions BEFORE packing. It's a great time to reduce the amount of items you own & may not use...want...or need. You will be glad you did when your items come out of storage! If you have any other concerns/questions...feel free to continue this post. The tips I mentioned are the most critical ...yet by no means all inclusive.
