: Aloha Julie....

: Nice name btw! :)

: OK...first you need to understand that although he has asked for assistance...*you* may be too close to the situation....so don't take it personally if he doesn't go head-over-heels for some of your ideas. :)

: You might want to even suggest that he visit this BBS or portions of the website to *see* some ideas on products available. (check out the Hot Picks section as well as the archives from over the years showing some kool products)

: I noticed you rec'd a response from one of our visitors already w/some great ideas on different stores to check out!!! The Container Store (800-733-3532) is HIGH on my list of suggestions...another is Hold Everything. (800-421-2264) If you are not receiving these catalogs yet -- call & get on their mail list!

: The next step would be to peruse the catalogs together so he can *visually see* the types of products out there ..& YES! Men use them too!!

: When it comes to the closet I would highly recommend checking out an "Elfa System" The Container Store is the only company that carries this product & it will last a lifetime (VERY reasonably priced!!!)...unlike some of the other *facimiles* around.
: Check into a *runner basket system* for storing clothes....jeans ....socks...underware etc.. They even have belt attachments for the system & dividers to keep things neatly in place!

: The concept of keeping everything in view for guys...is also true for women....where this theory is derived stems from the *type* of person you are dealing with. If they operate more from the right brain (creative side) yes, there is a need to keep everything in a more visual format. If the person is more left brain dominant (logical, analytical) then there usually is no problem using drawers (& file cabinets too!) You see when dealing more w/a creative person ...if they cannot *see* it ...to them it truly lands in a "black hole" ...so we come up w/the *right* tools to perform the job & they love it!

: By all means hang the T's if the closet has room -- it's the easiest way to see one's selection! Group them by work T's, play T's & dress T's. Get rid of the old wire hangers & use the tubulars. If you want you can use different colors for the various types of clothes.

: You mentioned "all the other stuff is in the other room"....can you be more specific & give me a list of what the other stuff is? Then I'd be happy to give you more concrete suggestions! :)

: My next questions is: How does he WANT to use the other room --once it's cleared of clutter???

: When it comes to maintaining the masculinity of the room....my suggestion is to stay away from frilly curtains...tons of excess pillows & go w/the earth tones for the decor. Wood over wicker, sturdy leather or Wing-back chairs vs the *parlor look* chair & footstool. Bookshelves to display trophies & such.

: Another GREAT resource is Levengers -- they use a great number of men when displaying certain products too! :) (800-544-0880)

: What you need Julie, is some resources to get a better *feel* for what HE really wants...& remember to have FUN & laugh while you BOTH work on the project! :)

: Looking forward to more info on "what else is really in that 2nd room!" Meanwhile, I hope something here helps!

: Much Aloha,

Thanks to you both for quick replies. I am going to call
those catologs as soon as I am done here and be put on the mailing
list. As for the other room - he wants to use it as a closet. He
has a lot of clothes, plus all his scuba diving gear. He will also
be storing some guns as well but doesn't want a gun cabinet. He like
them kept out of sight. Would also probably be turning a third room
into a guest room/computer room as well.
This is turning into quite the project actually. I just cleaned out his
old filing cabinets ( poorly used by the way) and threw out 2 bags
of old papers. These were bills and newspapers and other items
from as far back as 1996.
Thanks again for all the suggestions - I can't wait to get the catologs
and show him some things.
Julie
