Aloha Mary....

I believe you *have* the motivation my dear!! As a matter of fact you just stated it! :)

You HAVE the answer already ....In your msg text you mentioned how you believe the clutter interferes w/your relationships & uneasiness to have guests over. It does!! It affects your mood, tonality, energy level, focus...all the things you want to have time for with your family & friends.

You mentioned that you DO clean up, organize, put away, file etc....& before long it gets to the messies again. Actually if I only picked up 1x a week - the same would happen to me too -- or ANYONE for that matter :)

The key is to spend 15-30 min. picking up during or at the end of EACH day -- that is the only way things can stay manageable. I also HIGHLY suggest recruiting the family members to assist you -- it is a TEAM effort -- not "mom's job" :)

Here is an idea...do this experiment. Clean up, organize, put away & declutter EVERYTHING in one room! Then watch what happens at the end of 24 hours if you keep things out where they don't belong (another words everyone comes in & just dumps stuff as usual) ...then take a video shot (or 35 mm) Do this again at the end of 48 hrs...then 72 ...etc & you can VISUALLY see exactly HOW it happens. You will also capture the main culprits on film :)

Your motivation ...needs to come from within you....just ask yourself how much you care about YOU...your peace of mind, your clarity, teaching your kids at an early age to care for the home & take responsibility. You see when *you* can get to this stage in valuing it for yourself first -- you will then see how your family will reap the rewards :)

If you constantly DO for them -- when will it stop -- when they are 14? 18? 21? Or will they end up being dis-organized adults wishing they had learned the skills at an early age?

Remember: "What we acquire too cheaply -- we esteem too lightly" You don't want everyone else's messies to be always picked up by you -- the time is ripe to enlist the troops my dear!

Hope this helps!

Much Aloha,
