Aloha Sheila....

Well first of all BRAVO to you for decluttering!!!!

OK...now for the spare room!

Regardless of how the room would be used normally (w/out the excess you gathered) it may be a wise investment to incorporate maximum shelving for the room...as well as various sizes of Rubbermaid containers.

Sort everything you are keeping by category & containerize it in a similar manner. Make SURE you label the contents of each container too! :)

The BEST shelving I have ever come across is "Elfa" (highly adjustable to boot!) -- it can be found at The Container Store. If there is not one near you -- they ship anywhere at a very reasonable price! Get on their mailing list & ask to receive ALL categories of their catalogs -- you won't regret it! :) 1-800-733-3532
(no -- they will not sell/trade your name either!)

If you create the shelving design properly ...the room can still be used as a guest bedroom, craft room, sewing room, reading room/study etc....just maximize your space by going all the way to the ceiling w/the shelving. I would also go for the melanine top rather than the regular *wire* design system -- it gives a much nicer appearance -- especially for what you are attempting to accomplish in this particular room.

You did not mention attic space of garage space -- yet if either of these areas are an option -- this would be a more appropriate place for storing your valuables. You also mentioned these are NOT items you wish to part with....yet "storing them forever" is not a solution either.

How about putting yourself on a schedule & every 6 months or so *rotate* the treasures you have on display in your now beautifully organized home? At least in this manner -- you get to *appreciate* everything on a rotating basis :)

Hope something here helps -- drop another msg if you need more ideas :)

Much Aloha,
